2000 Ford Windstar 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 174000 miles

My rear brakes make a thumping noise when the brakes are applied. I have recently taken the van in to have the two recalls taken care of (09s09 and 10s13). The dealer has told me that what I was hearing was due to the wheel cylinder leaking and the brake pads where grabbing then slipping causing the noise. Can I replace the wheel cylinders on this model of vehicle due to the ABS sending units etc? I have replaced wheel cylinders before but they did not have any ABS back then.
