1999 Ford Windstar o/d light blinking

The od light blinks on and off. What does that mean. The transmission does not shift from 1st to second right away. It does work well then there is no problem. It seems to run fine. But just want to make sure.

I hate to give bad news, but our 2001 did the same thing and we had to have the transmission rebuilt. There is a sensor on the trans that you can try to replace first for around $35.00, but it did not fix our problem.
