Hi. When I turn the vehicle it gives a whinning noise. The fluid is grey/black.I had the steering rack and pinion fully replaced 6 months ago because of a bad leak from the rack. What could the problem be now?

Hi:
First, the fluid should be clear so you may want to have the pump serviced. Also, this is a common problem with the powersteering pumps on this vehicle. The pump itself may be going bad. The only problem, if you replace it with a remanufactured one from a parts store, they too seem noisy. The only suggestion I have is to try the service. If it doesn't help and the sound is too bad to tolerate, try replacing the pump, but I do recommend getting a new factory pump or a warranty saying an aftermarket will not make a similar noise.

Let me know if you have other questions.
Joe
