1999 Ford Windstar fuel sender

I have a 1999 ford windstar, the fuel guage and the "miles remaining" readout drop very quickly when the tank gets to about 1/4 tank. (the miles drop at a rate of 1 mile every three seconds) Could this be the fuel sender and can it be easily replaced at home?

most likely its the fuel sender and its located inside fuel tank
