1999 Ford Windstar engine light on

My 1999 Windstar's engine light came on and has stayed on. The quick diagnostic book that came with the owners's manual says "emissions control". What part of the emissions control are they talking about?

Under the dash on the drivers side is a data link connector, go to Autozone and they will read the code(s) free, get the printout, and post the codes here. There are MANY possibilties!
