1998 f150....171k. the truck "searches" the overdrive or surges in and out of the high gear. the check eng light is on and is a po 122 code. the egr has been cleaned of carbon and a new tps sensor was installed. it i is intermitent and sometimes shfts normally. the truck was given to me and may simply need a tune up or transmission flush but was hesistant to flush the transmission at high mileage....any suggestions???

Hi there JASONB122 and TY for the donation this is what keeps the site going.

A badly needed tune-up will affect the transmission to operate properly. Do a fluid and filter change on the tranny -do not flush-If it continues to act up get it pressure tested. Further you might want to test the DPFE sensor, throttle position and vehicle speed sensors which the computer uses to determine the throttle and governor pressures.
