1960 Ford Truck how to check a car generator

im having issues with my 1936 ford with a 331 caddillac engine has an old school car generator and voltage regulator im having electrical problems my battery dies out i checked the battery while off reads 12 volts and i turn the vehicle on and it stays at 12volts how can i check if my generator works and voltage regalator still works???

Hi there,

There is a fair chance that the voltage regulator is not working, now this will be an adjustable type, so you will have to find an auto electrician from the old school who can remember how to test and adjust these regs, also best have the gen bench tested as it may be out of brushes as well.
