1996 Ford Thunderbird V8 Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 108k miles

I was told i needed to replace the converters by ford.my friend said take it to this meineke,i know them and it will be much cheaper.one year,2 sets of converters and 1700.00 later i am back at the ford dealer being told the right front cat is out-contaminated. i have no faith in meineke-my poor car hasn't been right since. i am a bit leery of everyone now.why is this happening? in between these visits the car runs great.i am the original owner and have loved this car,which is why i still own it.what shoud i do?help please!!
