While idiling or at a stop, my car idles between 1500 and 2000 RPMs. Also, while acutally driving, my car will accelerate up to speeds of 40-45 MPH with no touching of accellerator pedal and the cruise control turned off and overdrive turned off. How can I rectify this issue?

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked the idle air control valve?
