1994 Ford Thunderbird shifter

i need to remove the shifter on my car it wont go in to park i think i have a bent rod but it goes in to every other gear right below the shifter it makes a metal on metal grinding sound when i try to put it into park i would appreciate an answer so i can fix this problem thanks.
