1993 Ford Thunderbird brakes

When driving on the highway, if you need to brake, car shakes terribly. This is not as noticeable around town at lower rates of speed. Do the brake pads and rotors need replaced or could this be even more serious?

If the vibration only occurs under braking, it is just that your brake system is worn and needs some new parts. I would suggest having all four wheels checked for good brake components. If the rotors are worn and have grooves in them, replacing them is the best way to go, however you can choose to have them "turned" for a cheaper price if they are still thick enough to do so.
