My car has a 460 engine and everytime I put the vacuum advance hose on it backfires and stalls out. I have put new timing chain and new distributor, new coil and msd, plugs and wires. I have never had this happen. When you leve the vacuum hose off, the car will run but sounds like it is missing.

Is it backfiring through the intake or exhaust? Also, when you set the timing, did you have the vacuum advanced disconnected and plugged? Have you checked for other vacuum leaks? Finally, (no knowing the vehicle) have you checked compression?
