I have 1993 Ford Tempo, automatic, 4 cyl. Engine. 180000 miles. When I put it in Park, the engine revs up really high, and continues to idle at that speed until I put it into Drive or Reverse. Also does the same in Neutral. Do you have any ideas on what may be wrong and can I fix it myself?

Sounds like a bad idle air controller. It is the long silver thing bolted to the intake manifold. Try cleaning if not replace it.

Also check for a vacuum leak. Sometime the brake booster will cause that problem. Good Luck
