85 Ford Tempo squealing noise

I have 85 ford tempo. It has 143 k miles. I have a problem. When I start the car and turn steering wheel, there is a squealing noise under the front hood and it is harder to turn steering wheel. The battery charging warning lamp starts to blink as well. What is it and how can I fix it. Thank you!

You need a new belt asap the way it sounds its sqeals as soon as you starit I assume therefore its not turning your alternator an power steering pump like it should, also you may need some fluid in your poweresteering pump not sure if you have a belt tensioner but it may not be doing its job, have a look at that if your belts is nearley new (no cracks)good luckhope I helped
