I removed the fuel pump assembly and it has a check valve located just above the fuel pump below the mounting plate.
I have tried to buy a new complete fuel pump assembly but the check valve is not present. Instead there is a hose that goes from the fuel pump to the pipe at mounting plate.
My question is it necessary to have a check valve in this fuel pump assembly?
This car was manf 9/1993.

May be a pulse dampener like the older GM's used and they deemed it unnecessary as did GM.When the dampener goes bad it will dump pressure and cause a vast array of fuel related problems
