My girlfriends 94 tempo will go by itself without pressing the gas pedal. It will actually go about 30mph without press the pedal. It also idles somewhat high. What do you think it is?

The idle speed could be high or the throttle plate is binding and accelerator cable kinked

has it always done this?when did it start to exhibit this symptom?was work done on car right before this started to happen?an air leak(vacuum) can cause this.either from throttle sticking open(so small a gap not visible to casual eye)or hose/gasket leaking.could be as simple as gas pedal linkage being sticky.is the pedal hard to push initially?
