I'm not sure whats wrong here. my car makes a humming noise and the temperature shoots up within 5 minutes of being running. I think it's my thermostat.

did this problem start suddenly? first things first? is radiator full when cold? is waterpump belt present and is pump wheel turning when car is running?waterpump is right behind/below intake manifold near left shock tower.it uses a narrow seperate belt. use a vacuum cleaner pipe or pvc pipe to hold on your ear and locate noise. when temp gauge shows hot, is radiator hoses top and bottom hot to touch?if pump iis working then you could as an experiment just change thermostat or just remove it and see if problem is solved? it's not to difficult a job. it's right behind/inside where top radiator hose enters engine.
