1991 Ford Tempo Problems

When I first start up the car, it starts fine. After I drive it for 10 - 15 mins and shut it off, then try to turn in back on, the AMP light comes on and the alternator belt starts squeeking and sometimes the car dies a couple seconds afterwards, sometimes it will stop squeeking and I can drive it. Any ideas as to what might be the problem?

First replace the belt. The belt is squeeking because it is too loose or too worn. This will make the light come on.
