1989 Ford Tempo Car not starting

Grinding noise when trying to start. Battery connections been a little iffy lately; Ive have to adjust it at times to get it to start. I dont feel it would make that noise though. So maybe the starter?

Could be the flexplate/flywheel or the starter itself
