Engine Performance problem
1987 Ford Tempo 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi, my girl has 142000 on the odometer. I have put new wires, plugs, cap and rotor. I checked vacuum hoses all seem intact. New Fuel filter and have run injector cleaner through several tanks. Parts counter guy said it was a O2 sensor. Another said it was it was the ERG valve. I'm on a fixed income and can't chase this rabbit much further. ERG is a high dollar item for me at the moment. I moved some suspect wires away from possible contact which worked before but not this time. I'm lost and can you even fix an ERG?

Try cleaning out the EGR valve and its passages and also test the MAP and TPS sensors

that old could mean 242K as it rolls over at 99! it's probably the TPS, and you can disconnect the small vacuum hose to EGR and plug hose to see if that is it. that old i suspect TPS.

I blocked off the EGR valve a few years ago. I will block the vacuum to it and see. Then wonder how to check the TPS and MAP sensors. It is 142000 and very well taken care of. I just want it to run properly.

I blocked the vacuum hose to the EGR and the EGR itself. I don't know which one fixed the hesitation but will leave both plugged. I appreciate your suggestions that ultimately solved the problem. It cost me joining this site and finding my car, 2 inches of electrical tape and one golf tee. Exactly my kind of budget right now. Thanks Guys, you rock!!!
