1985 Ford Tempo wont stay running

only starts when you turn the key, will only stay running if you hold the ignition key

could be the ignition switch(not the key cylinder) that is down on lower part of steering column. connects between with a steel rod. i've actually taken apart the ignition switch unit and repaired it. you can do a search of this tempo forum for "ignition" to get lots more answers/ help!
