I figured it out. I'm not sure what the part is called, but it's located above the carburator, fits in your palm, attaches with two screws and one electrical plug (silver, cylindar shape with a black knob). It has something to do with air flowing into carburator. Anyway, I took it off and cleaned it with a carburator cleaner and little scrub brush. I also cleaned around the openings into the carburator, where the piece attaches as well as the accelerator flap of the carburator. The idea is to clean off some of the carbon buildup. Replaced it and everything now works like a charm. In fact, I think the car has more pickup now then when it was new!
The "Check Engine Soon" light had finally come on a few days prior to the cleaning. I found somewhere that you can reset it by putting the key in ignition and turning it to the point just before it cranks, disconnect the battery for 20-30 minutes, then reconnect battery, remove key. It worked for me. There was a caution on some of the newer models where you could not "trick" the warning and have to take it into service for a scan.
