1999 Ford Taurus Wagon with about 97,000 miles heat does not work. I have checked all the hoses going in and out of the heater core and they all feel hot. When you first turn on the heat it is warm then within seconds turns cold. Do you have any suggestions on what could be the problem?

If you smell coolant, you probably need a new heater core.
Otherwise you simply need to add more radiator fluid.

Have you flushed the system out? If not I would start there. Then turn on the car and warm it up. If the heater hoses (both) get hot then it could be the switch to mix the air under the dash if one is getting hot and the other is not. Then you may have a blockage in the heater core itself and it will need replaced. But it sounds like the heater core has some kind of blockage in it. And of course be careful once you get it hot. It's scalding hot water and it's typically under pressure so if you loosen anything up it will shoot out possibly burning you.
