This car has had problems for a long time. It never has issues starting up for the first time every day but after I go into the store, or to work, etc, it often did not like starting up whether I stopped for ten minutes or three hours. It will crank but not turn over. No clicking, no grinding, sounds normal but won’t start. After I try starting it, it will normally start up after waiting for anywhere from five to thirty minutes, usually around fifteen. It has also shut off recently on the way home from work and has done so in the past on my old half an hour drive. Please help me finally find out the problem. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello,

It sounds like it can be the starter or starter relay. to be sure lets use these guides and the starter wiring diagrams below to find out what the problem is.

First thing we need to make sure that the starter is getting enough juice. Make sure the battery is good and charged. Make sure battery terminals a clean and that cables are tight. Make sure cables on stater tight and clean and check all ground connections are good. If that all seems to check out you might need new starter. Let us now. Thnks and good luck

2002 ford taurus ses barely turns over/won't start. Just replaced battery that was 3 years old, when checked it showed defective---still will barely turn over---when jumped, starts right away---what elose to check or what would cause this?

Check all battery wiring. Battery grounds to chassis and engine block. And live to starter motor are all clean and secured correctly ! More than likely one of the ground wires.

I went to start my 2002 Ford Taurus today, but it wouldn't turn over, wouldn't click, nothing. Radio still was working, so I assume it wasn't the battery or alternator. After about 20 minutes, it actually started, but I went to start it again less than an hour later, and it was back to doing nothing.

Hi guys. Had this ford for about 4-5 months now and sometimes it cranks and sometimes it doesn't, the battery has been tested and works perfectly, the starter has been tested and is strong, all the cables and clean and tight. Basically I turn the key to on and theirs a humming/buzzing coming from the car and it wont crank, inside the car the sound comes from the rear and under the hood it sounds like its coming from behind the top of the engine. Now after turning the key to on and then off many times the sound will go away and it will start fine and run fine but leave it sitting again for maybe 4 hours and its back to square one.

It cold be one of the three things pointed out in pic or poor connection under hood where relay is in junction box. Check for corrosion on relay prongs. Also try another relay

Ok, so whats happening here, is your car thinks its "stolen" and shuts off. You would need to have the vehicle scanned, and pull any codes related to the BCM- body control module, your security system will trigger a code there. It may have to be towed to a garage, unless you know someone with a professional scanner such as a snap-on modis, or an OTC genisys.

Thanks everyone for replies, sorry I didn’t give updates but I looked into everyone’s suggestions, thanks for those, and took it in to someplace else. They ended up thinking it was the crankshaft sensor and got it replaced. So far it’s been fine but I haven’t tested it much. I can update if it doesn’t work again, otherwise that was the solution. Thanks again
