Engine Cylinder

I have a 96 Ford Taurus with 170,000 and today the car began running very rough like it was going to stall. The Check Engine Light is flashing and the dealership said I may have "dropped a cylinder". I don't know what that means or how expensive it would be to repair. Help.

What was the OBD2 code/s-comeback with it.
