2008 Ford Taurus Rev counter out of sync with tansmission

Recently purchased 2008 Taurus X when I start to drive away the engine & the revs seem to rise & fall as the gears go up with speed causing the drive to be erratic
Once a top speed is attained all seems fine

The RPMs and engine load are supposed to change as the transmission switches to a higher gear.
