2004 Ford Taurus Overdrive vs Drive

2004 Ford Taurus 6 cyl 87000 miles

When I driving my Taurus wagon this morning, it would hesitate while driving, sometimes I could throttle through it others no. This happened while it was in overdrive. When I put into drive it didn't seem to happen.
