2004 Ford Taurus 108000 miles

Hey hi! just wondering here....this morning on my way to work the check fuel cap light came on, when I arrived at work I checked (thinking it was loose) and it wasnt....so, I figured it was just a silly thing...then after work, not only did the check fuel cap light come back on, but the little engine lit up too....I dont want the car to blow up. any ideas?

Need to check for codes
check gas cap and EVAP system for leak
you should be OK unless you have a fuel leak
