2004 Ford Taurus are taurus engines interchangeable

is it possible to put a mid line taurus engine into a taurus sel? or can you just use a ford taurus sel engine?

There are only two types of engines used in the Taurus-- a 3.0 (vulcan) and a 3.0 SHO. If your vehicle is not a SHO you the others are pretty much interchangable. You may want to get the two different engine numbers (old and new) and call your local dealership parts department. They should be able to tell you for sure, but I believe that it will work. Most of the difference in the cars you listed are internal options.
