2003 Ford Taurus my car suddenly would not move

i was driving my 2003 ford taurus from work. i stopped at a stop sign and go, just like what i do daily. everything was ok. when i start to go at that stop sign, i found the RPM panel goes over 3000 rpm and my car wouls not move anyway. I tried shift gears to R, D. the car would not go back and go forward. I shifted the gears to N and pushed it to roadside. by the way, the engine and panel shows no problems. no any warning light is on. i have no idea of it. is it a transimmision problem or other? Thanks a lot. jim

My wife has a '98 Windstar; tranny has similar situation. Our temporary remedy (maybe we were lucky) was to stop the engine, put in Neutral, restart, and then the car would drive off OK. Our tranny is acting up occasionally, I'm leaing to believe there is a shift solenoid pack which is sticking. Within the next few weeks, I'll be replacing them. (Waiting for the holidays to pass...) If you want to read progress and other details regarding the matter, I have a recent post entitled P1780 Erratic Trans under Ford Windstar. The Windstar and Taurus share similar transaxles.

You're welcome to read and monitor...I'll be following up on repairs as soon as I figure out my own vehicle.
