I took my car in and had it looked at after the light check engine light came on. The problem was the forth cylinder was mis-firing. I fixed the problem by replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires. I then disconnected the battery thinking that this would reset the check engine like and it did. This only lasted for about 1 day. My question is "Is there a way to manually check what the engine code is for my car?

On some model cars with a digital odometer, you can turn the ignition to "just before it turns the engine" 2 times and then the 3rd time leaving it in the on position, it may blink codes for you. My Intrepid does.

You are correct on most Chrysler product
if you cycle key on off 3 times
you can access the p codes and or check engine light will flash a code
but Ford do NOT use this system
and the easiest way to get codes on Ford is by using an OBDII reader
