Hey fellas thanks for the opportunity to ask my question. My Taurus intermittantly surges every 6-8 seconds. At stop lights I always drop it into nuetral so I don't have to bare down on my breaks. Their is also a cycling sound, that ends in a click, followed by the surge up to 1000 rpm when in nuetral. I can literally take my foot off the gas in low speed areas. I surge forward, coast and then surge forward. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Is the AC on or defrost
do you have check engine light on
checking for trouble codes would help
I would check for vacuum leaks
and specially around PCV valve
check and suspect IAC valve

Thanks for getting back to my. There are no engine lights on. My AC hasn't worked in a while so is off. Also, I forgot to mention, there are occasionally small amounts of smoke coming from beneath the oil filter. I changed the oil and the filter but it didn't help.
