2002 Ford Taurus rough idle

I put a small amount (less than 1/2 a quart) of trans fluid in instead of engine oil. Now my car idle and runs rough. Did I do any major damage?

That will diliute down the oil dramatically and it wont function properly.

How long was in ran like that for?

Perform a compression test on each cylinder to tell
lowest should be no more then 25% of the highest.
