Transmission problem
2002 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I was driving down the road today and as I was getting off at my exit, the rpms on my car went up and then dropped. The car would not accelerate. I pulled over, cut it off and restarted it. It started fine, but when put into drive-nothing. So I put it back in park and tried Reverse. Again nothing. I was told that it could be as simple as the transmission electronically became disengaged. Is this a possibility??
