Power windows not working

I just purchased a 2002 Ford Taurus SES at an auto auction. After purchase I realized that I could not get the drivers window to go up. None of the windows seem able to go up or down. There seems to be no other electrical problems. Radio, interior lights, rear defrost, etc. All seem to work fine. I have a manual and checked it for location of a fuse for the windows but it does not provide a location. Searching the web has turned up nothing except similar results where others have not been able to locate a fuse for the windows. I can hear a relay engage if I press the auto down on the drivers window switch but that is all. I already tried the master switch and checked fuses but nothing seems to work.

Did you ever find a solution for your problem?Any help appreciated.

There is a one touch window relay and an accessory relay that needs to be checked and the fuses as well (10, 11 and 26). I would start by checking the fuse and if its okay try the relay. Here are a couple of guides and window wiring diagrams (below) to help you see how the system works.

Please let us know what happens so it will help others.

Hey, I got a 2003 Ford Taurus myself and O2 in the 03 Ford Taurus have the same a fuse box and GEM which is the controls are anything that has a switch on it as well as your keyless entry and all. I had a problem where my windows wouldn't go up and down, my internal lights wouldn't work properly and I was having problems to radio. My problem was I had a bad fuse box just wanted to wiring harness plugs ripped out and I also had a problem with the the gem on the back of the fuse box. It started to go bad you might want to check them first if you have any problems with your windows in your interior lights because that's where it is. One of the problems with these cars I swapped out my fuse box in my GEM had no problem only thing do you need to remember is when you swap out the jam on the back of the fuse box you need to make sure you get the key fob for that module. You are going to need to go to somebody and get key fob program to it and I will apologize to you now for any problems with a my text because I used talk to text.

Yeah, I did check the switches and everything and when it got down to it because of where the fuse boxes located you do have a tendency of kicking it with your foot. One of my problems was is the fact that the capture nut in the plastic where the plug goes actually came loose so the plug wouldn't stay connected to the fuse box and that was one of the issues. The other issue was the fact that some of the circuitry in the gym was shorted out and which was causing me issues with a lot of different things, actually caused my PCM relay to stay open which shorted it out. That's why I said check the fuse box quiz that is actually one of the big problems with the Ford Taurus that those shoes boxes to go bed and the gym goes bad and you can't put. I did find out you can't put a 04 or 01 Torresdale gym behind the fuse box of a 02 or 03 you can only use an O2 or O3 in an o-3 or number 2. I was literally going nuts ripping my hair out until I figured out exactly what the problem was. I wish I would have known because I could have just replace the relay instead of spending all the money on getting another fuse box and other things and it just wound up costing me money. That's why I said check the fuse box and the gym is gym does that it stops window from working at times and sometimes it lets it work the other thing is is the gym. Also if that goes bad can cause your dome lights to stay on. We're not work at all is well as other things use the gym actually controls anything that has a switch from what my research had told me person actually told me to look at the gym and the fuse box was a mechanic for Ford he's a friend of mine and we work together in a couple shops and I trusted what he said and it led me on the right path. I'm so thankful that somebody actually gave me a 2003 Ford Taurus deluxe model did I've been stripping Parts off of for my 2003 Ford Taurus. I hope this helps and good luck.

Oh, I just figured I'd let you know also one of the things didn't also led me to the fact there was a fuse box was when I put my foot on the fuse box or kicked it my windows would start working and so would my lights my dome lights and all it's just a stupid dumb little test that you can do today if it works then you know you have a problem with the fuse box if it don't work then your problem somewhere else is just one of the things that I was told to do and I did it and it work like a charm.

Chances are the switch is going bad. WHen it stops working, you need to remove the door panel and see if there is power getting to the motor. If there is, the motor may be the problem. If there is no power, go to the switch to make sure it is getting power in and out.

The switch of the driver's power window is not working. The 3 others switches and windows are working. I'd like to open the window panel to check what is defective. I took off the 4 screws off the panel, but I'm afraid to pry it that I might break something. I need your advise, please.

I want to take a look inside the panel of the driver's side window. The driver's power window is not working. I already got the srews out, and I might break something if I pry it off. Any suggestion on the power window? All the other three windows are working.

Chances are the motor has gone bad. If you have all of the screws out, there are clips between the panel and the door. They will need pried apart. If you are concerned, stop at a body shop and they will show you how to remove it.

I do not turn on the car for two days and work the windows well, but if I turn off the car and turn it on again at that same moment and the windows do not work.

In these hot days do not work, but notice that in the morning when it is cold, the windows work, but the car warms up and the windows do not work.

What can be?

It sounds like a relay is having a problem and the switch is not getting power. Here are some guides to help you do some simple testing to see what the problem is:

There is an accessory relay that powers the system.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-a-test-light-circuit-tester

and

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-an-electrical-relay-and-wiring-control-circuit

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

Hi there,
It sounds as if you may have a faulty relay, I would get this checked out first. I have lost access to our data base, but if I get back in with in the next few days I will see if I can post a pic of its location.

Electrical problem
1999 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I just bought this car at auction so I do not know all the history, nor can I ask the seller.

The front power windows work fine, but the back do not at all. I know it could be possible that BOTH motors are out, but could it be something simpler (and cheaper) I can test. I think I see that 1 fuse covers all power windows, so it wouln't be that. Any suggestions?
