2001 Ford Taurus transmission problem

just drove back from florida 1000miles--ran perfect--washed the car two days later and did small trips--parked it and when I started it the next day-no tramsmission at all..no sounds except the engine running, fluids ok-not burnt--
not even the slightest movement forward or backwards

could this be an electrical problem--my obd II does not detect any transmission codes--in the 700's--don't really know if this reader reads trans codes.

anyway, lost job last year, money tight, can you give me a workable plan to diagnose this problem?

know if the fluid level OK
check axles
make sure shifter cable is working
(place it in reverse or drive and check it if really moved )
if all check OK suspect internal tranny failure
