2001 Ford Taurus This car almost killed me and need help fa

When I was at a red light, I was just waiting for the green light like anyother normal person. Then, my car's RPM goes all the way up to the redline and then my car goes threw the red light when my foot is all the way on my brake still! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? I put it in park and the car is still in the Redline! So I quickly shut the car off and then the car stopped. I almost killed myself. Please help me! Its a death trap!

Did you accidently hit the gas and the brake? Something roll onto the pedal? Only thing I can even remotely think of that woudl cause that is a cruise control malfunction and it shouldnt have even caused it to redline
