2001 Ford Taurus lost brakes

Brakes problem
2001 Ford Taurus 40,000 miles

2001 taurus lost brakes, when i came to a stop after denting another car (nobody hurt)white not dark color smoke was coming from behind the drivers side rear tire, towed car to garage no brake problem found. brakes worked at the garage. did have 2 rear broken coils spings .could the coil spings cause brakes to go on the car or any idea what to have checked still scared to drive it and the brake fluid was filled to correct level

Hi there,

The springs will not be the cause of the brake failure, you will have to get the system tested and check for any leaks and make sure that the pads have plenty of material on them, also if the pedal lost pressure you may have a faulty master cylinder that is by-passing brake fluid internally, this will case the pedal to drop and have no braking pressure.
