2001 Ford Taurus gas smell outside of car

could you tell me why I would smell gas (strongly) outside the car? It seems worse on fill up (maybe just because there is more there to smell) and no visible leaks. I changed the gas cap to a new one....any ideas?

check your fuel lines, or more likely the charcoal/carbon canister and purge solenoid those will be the most likely causes.
