Noises problem
2001 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 72.5 miles

I'm almost positive it's the fuel pump but from a few other posts I saw mention of a fuel filture that is plugged can also cause this noise. It's now at every startup and stays at the same level during excelleration or stopped. It will sometimes stop altogether. We haven't had any engine failure to start or run but this is a new noise...maybe a month old.
Thanks for the response.

With the engine off, turn the key to the run position. The fuel pump will run for about 2 seconds. Is that the sound you hear?

I hadn't thought to compare that noise but yes it is that same sound. It has stopped doing it pretty much now. I heard it once last week for just a few minutes.

If it starts again, see if the noise is coming from the fuel tank.

Let me know what you find.
