My car engine light has been on for about 4 years off and on,. I've taken it to my local mechanic, and it goes off for awhile (a week) then comes back on. It hasn't stopped the car from performing correctly. Now, though, the light blinks when I start the car, and keeps blinking until it runs for awhile. The light stays on, and it's running ragged like it wants to stop. Almost like it isn't getting any gas. When this started, I had just filled it up and the gas lasted twice as long as it usually does, which was surprising. I've put in fuel injector cleaner twice, and it helps a little, but it is still running ragged, and the light still blinks. I can't afford a big repair. I am handicapped and not capable of doing a DIY project. What is wrong with this car?

Blinking check engine light is an indication of a misfire and need to be checked for tune up as a 1st step

Coil failure also a common
