About 4 months ago, I started noticing a rough idle upon coming to traffic stops after seeing the check engine light come on. . The rpm would be steady at 1000 right after stopping, but then dip to 800 and the car would shake slightly. Eventually it would randomly turn off after dropping lower than 500. I replaced the EGR valve and O2 sensors with slight improvement, although the car would still die occasionally. Today I finally bought what I thought was the culprit, the MAF sensor. After installing it and running the car for a couple minutes, the check engine light went off and after driving the car, I noticed a big boost in performance so I thought the problem was solved. Upon driving it the next day, I found that the rpm will still dip if the car is stopped for more than 20 seconds, but does not die anymore and tries to get back to around 1000 rpm. Would trying to adjust the idle to run a little higher work, or would the computer just reset the idle after? Also I just found out that the car had 4 sensors and I had just replaced the front two, so maybe that could be the problem also? Or can old sparkplugs cause an intermittent idle also? I'm just stumped as to what else would be wrong even after all the codes went away.
