2000 Ford Taurus BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING PREVENTING GEAR S

2000 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

None of the brake lights are working preventing the gear shift from coming out of PARK. I can move it using a work around.

Will replacing the brake light switch or stop lamp switch correct the problem? Are they the same thing?

yes the brake and stop lamp switch refers to same part and it is indeed the most likely culprit
