When youre driving and rpm is say 2000 all of a sudden it will jump to 35000 and then back, what might be wrong?

Hi Does engine rev up? Or does trans seem to slip? Or Tach just jumps with no change to engine RPM?

No just the tach jumps up and then down, the engine dont seem to rev up but it stays the same speed. Thanks

Tach input signal is from PCM so if speedo is O.K. And no other gagues effected then most likely the Tach itself. Check engine light ever come on? Only thing it might be is the camshaft sensor acting up.

The check engine light did come on, now its running fine but will do it again the longer I drive it. When the rpm jumps up I dont lose power but the engine might rev up a little but you can hardly notice, something happens when it jumps up and back down but its hard to tell. Thanks jeff
