Transmission problem
1999 Ford Taurus Two Wheel Drive Automatic 86000 miles

I have a 1999 Taurus thatshifts abruptly (and pretty much randomly) during the first several minutes of operation. It doe not do this when I first start it after it's been off for a while (for example, first thing in the AM). It only does this after I drive it for a while, then turn it off for just a short time, then start it up again. Shifting between overdrive and drive doesn't help. Is the transmission going? A speed sensor problem?

Again, it doesn't do it the first time it's started, it only does it after it's been restarted, and even then it only does it for a few minutes.
