1999 Ford Taurus Speedometer, odometer, trans and EGR

I have an intermittent problem where my speedometer, odometer and cruise control go out. Occasionally when this happens the car goes into neutral. The check engine light is showing a P401 code. I replaced the EGR Valve which is what I was told to do by a mechanic but the problem has persisted though less frequently.

i have a 1998 and had the same problem. its the speed sensor on the trans.
