Brakes problem
1999 Ford Taurus Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I drive a 1999 Ford Taurus that has about 81000 miles on it. When I brake while going at least 20 mph, the steering wheel begins to vibrate. What exactly is the problem here?

Sounds like warped rotors. Does it only do it when applying the brakes? If so have them machined and you should be all good

Yeah it only shakes when I brake. About how much do you think that'll cost me?

Call a few shops in your area and ask them what it would cost to re-machine front rotors. Shouldnt be more than $100, really depends on the shop and their hourly rate, you might want to consider a front brake job, depending on how much material is left on the pads when they machine the rotors

Jack is correct, the rotors most likely are warped. If this is something you can do yourself, I suggest going to rockauto. Com, they have the lowest prices of anything your car may need. Matter of fact I just purchased 2 new rotors from them. The rotors were only $16.16 a piece, AC Delco pads for $10.34, so you can get everything you need for $42.66 plus shipping. Only takes 30-45 minutes for the average DIY to install- lot cheaper than $100. I have a 99 Taurus SE 24V DOHC that I just done the same thing for.
