We test drove a used Ford Taurus with the though of buying it for our teenager. The ac started working and then started blowing hot. The mechanic for the dealer said it just needed freon.
Is low freon indicative of a much bigger problem (leak, etc.) Or is this a normal issues on a car of this ageo? We are having the car checked by our own mechanic.

Older cars suffered from freon loss more then newer, systems now are tighter. My 99 has no leaks, never has. If you're buying it from a used car dealer, have them fix it first, sometimes dumping freon into it justs masks the problem, if there is an underlying one.
