1999 Ford Taurus it just wont move

Transmission problem
1999 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Automatic

today when I parked my car ,everything was fine then when I got back in it tried to go into reverse it just wouldnt go it didnt work in drive so a man came over opened my trunk and moved the gears from inside to help me drive works in park but nothing else he said it was proably a link how much would that cost and does that sound like the problem

It could be the linkage. You need to check it. If it is ok, and this happened all at once, I would have the torque converter tested.
