1999 Ford Taurus Gas Fumes

I recently had a new fuel line replaced due to gas not getting to the engine. However, the car now emits loud, fainting bouts of gas fumes with the windows down and through the air vents when the ac is on. What could this be and is this a safety hazard?

Fuel smell and fumes never a good thing or safe
have to have it checked and repaired
